Celebrating Achievement at the 1st Lydd Scouts AGM and Presentation Evening

22nd May 2026

1st Lydd Scouts Celebrate Success at Annual AGM and Presentation Evening

The annual 1st Lydd Scouts AGM and Presentation Evening brought together young people, volunteers, parents and supporters for a fantastic evening of celebration, recognition and reflection on another successful year of Scouting.

The event highlighted the incredible achievements of our members across all sections, from Squirrels through to Explorers. Throughout the evening, awards were presented to recognise personal development, commitment, leadership, teamwork and the positive impact our young people have made within the Group.

Many members were recognised for their achievements, including the presentation of Chief Scout Awards, section medals and Outstanding Young Person awards. These awards celebrate young people who consistently demonstrate the values of Scouting while supporting and encouraging those around them.

One of the most special moments of the evening was the presentation of the inaugural Roger Whiting Recognition Award for Scouting Values & Going Above and Beyond.

The award has been created in memory of Roger Whiting, who sadly passed away in May after dedicating more than 58 years of service to Scouting. Roger was a well-known and respected figure whose commitment, kindness and passion for helping young people left a lasting legacy within Scouting and the local community.

The new award recognises individuals who truly embody the values of Scouting and consistently go the extra mile for others. We were delighted to present the very first Roger Whiting Recognition Award to Leela Johnstone, whose dedication and commitment make her a worthy inaugural recipient.

Another prestigious award presented during the evening was the Going on a Bear Hunt Bryan Welbourne Memorial Cup, awarded annually to our Scout of the Year. In line with our safeguarding policies, the recipient's name has not been published, but the award recognises exceptional commitment, effort and contribution to Scouting over the past year.

The evening also provided an opportunity to recognise and thank the many volunteers who make Scouting possible. Whether leading weekly meetings, organising activities, supporting events or working behind the scenes, our volunteers play a vital role in creating opportunities and adventures for local young people.

As we look ahead to another exciting year of camps, activities, community events and new challenges, the AGM and Presentation Evening was a wonderful reminder of everything that makes 1st Lydd Scouts special. We are incredibly proud of all our young people and volunteers and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the year ahead.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support 1st Lydd Scouts and help provide Skills for Life to young people across our community.
