Campfire Fun Lights Up the Evening for Beavers and Cubs
3rd June 2026

The sounds of campfire songs, laughter and sizzling treats filled the air as 1st New Romney Beavers and Mulberry Cubs joined together at 1st Lydd Scout Group for their first campfire of the season.
With the weather looking uncertain throughout the day, everyone kept their fingers crossed. Thankfully, the sun shone just in time, creating the perfect setting for an evening of outdoor adventure, food and friendship.
The Beavers enjoyed cooking their very own three-course campfire feast. First came the ever-popular campfire twisters, filled with a variety of delicious toppings including cheese, chocolate spread and golden syrup. These were followed by perfectly cooked hot dogs, expertly prepared by the Beavers themselves and generously topped with ketchup. To finish, everyone tucked into giant marshmallow s'mores sandwiched between chocolate biscuits – a firm favourite and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the evening.
No campfire would be complete without a selection of traditional campfire songs, and the young people enthusiastically joined in with classics including Animal Fair, Alice the Camel, BINGO, Beaver Smile, Litter and the ever-popular Ging Gang Gooli. The singing provided the perfect ending to a fantastic evening enjoyed by all.
A huge thank you goes to 1st Lydd Scout Group for hosting the event and to all the volunteer leaders who helped make the evening such a success. Special thanks go to Rick and Veronica for leading such a memorable campfire experience, as well as to every leader who supported the event behind the scenes.
The fun doesn't stop there. Over the coming weeks, the Beavers will be celebrating World Ocean Day, taking part in the Beaver Challenge 40 Project, tackling a Sandcastle Challenge and visiting the Rare Breeds Centre as part of their 40th Birthday celebrations. Young people will also be holding an election to decide which farm animal to adopt, with Hucklebury the Highland Cow and Dora and Flora the Indian Runner Ducks currently leading the race.
As Volunteer Week is celebrated, it is also the perfect opportunity to recognise the incredible team of volunteers who make Scouting possible. From section leaders and trustees to parents and members of the local community who share their knowledge, skills and time, every volunteer plays an important role in helping young people gain Skills for Life.
Thank you to everyone who supports Scouting in our community. Your dedication, enthusiasm and generosity help create unforgettable experiences and adventures for the next generation.
